Bengaluru Set for 120-Km Elevated Corridor Network Amid Opposition

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government is moving ahead with its ambitious plan to develop a 120-km elevated corridor network in Bengaluru, despite opposition and concerns surrounding the large-scale road infrastructure proposal.

According to the city’s development agenda, the government is currently in the process of inviting tenders for 11 proposed elevated corridors covering 75.60 km, with the estimated cost of these projects pegged at ₹13,262.70 crore.

The proposed network is aimed at improving connectivity and addressing Bengaluru’s persistent traffic congestion as the city continues to expand.

The estimated investment of ₹13,262.70 crore highlights the scale of the infrastructure programme and its potential impact on Bengaluru's transportation system.

Government Focuses on Traffic Decongestion

Bengaluru is among India's fastest-growing metropolitan regions and faces severe congestion on several major roads during peak hours.

The proposed elevated corridors are intended to provide additional road capacity and enable vehicles to bypass congested stretches at ground level.

The government expects the network to improve traffic flow and reduce travel time on important routes connecting residential, commercial and employment centres.
